Program Description
This certificate program—which prepares you to work in such
settings as hospitals, nursing homes, healthcare agencies, and
private health organizations—is divided into 30 units of 4
hours. The program runs continuously throughout the year,
allowing you to enter the program during any unit and finish at
your own pace.
You can finish these prerequisite 120 hours in just one semester by
attending classes twice a week at the University Park campus .
Upon successful completion of the program, you will be awarded a
certificate of completion from FIU. You may then obtain your
license from the State of Florida, Risk Management Division,
after submitting an application and meeting all the criteria of
the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA).
You are advised to contact the Agency for Health Care
Administration (AHCA) in Tallahassee at (850) 921-4314 for updated
information regarding eligibility requirements for State licensure
before registering for the program.

Certification
Upon graduation, you will receive a Certificate of Completion
from Florida International University as a Risk Manager. You will
obtain your Risk Management license from the State of Florida
upon completion of the 120 hours and if you meet the criteria
for eligibility from the Agency from Health Care Administration (AHCA).

About the Instructor
Juan D. Reyes Juan D. Reyes ARM, LHCRM, is currently a Compliance
Officer for a major Managed Care organization and a private
risk management consultant. He has a broad healthcare industry
background in administration and operations. Mr. Reyes ha been
in affiliated with the healthcare , insurance industries and in
the private sector , in various capacities, for over twenty
years. He has worked in both public, profit and non-for profit
healthcare sectors in several administrative positions. For ten
and a half years , he was the Director of Risk Management and
Compliance Programs for the Public Health Trust of Miami-Dade
County/University of Miami School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial
Medical Center and their Chief Compliance and Corporate Risk
Officer. In the insurance area, Mr.. Reyes has been directly
involved in Risk Prevention/Safety, Risk Financing and
Claims/Litigation Management. He is a graduate of the
University of Miami with a Master's in Business
Administration/Health Administration and a degree in Industrial
Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is
certified as a Health Safety Professional (CHSP), a diplomate of
the American Board of Quality and Utilization Review Physicians
(ABQAURP) , a State of Florida Multi Lines Adjuster and a State
of Florida Life and Health Agent as well as having an Associate
in Risk Management designation from the Insurance Institute of
America. He also teaches State of Florida pre-licensing
insurance courses for other local colleges. Mr.. Reyes has been
the primary instructor for the Pre-Licensing Healthcare
Certificate Program since May 2001 and his students have
consistently rated him as an excellent instructor.

Lecturers
In an effort to augment and enhance
the course experience, during the course of the program lecturers
with expertise in certain topics (ie: compliance, credentialing,
health care safety, quality improvement, etc...), will be invited to
present certain course topics.
